Michael Belous, of Lowell, is accused of attacking his 51-year-old mother when she visited his condominium on Middlesex Street, the Middlesex District Attorney's Office said.
Police were called to the condo early Monday morning and found Elena Vainer on the floor, badly beaten and barely breathing, officials said. She had heavy bruises on her face and other signs of trauma.
After a short investigation, police said a fight broke out between the mother and son, and Belous severely beat his mother in the head and neck. Authorities arrested him Monday morning.
He is expected to be arraigned Monday afternoon, the prosecutor said. He is charged with assault and battery on a household or family member and assault and battery causing serious bodily injury, officials said.
